Samara University was visited by the delegation of the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kazan, led by Davoud Mirzakhani, on a working visit. The Consul General met with the University Administration and gave a lecture for the students.

The meeting was attended by Vera Shcherbacheva, Head of the Directorate of Foreign Relations of the Administration of the Governor of the Samara Region, Vladimir Bogatyrev, Rector of Samara University, Viktoria Bolgova, Vice-Rector of Samara University, and Sergey Tits, Head of the International Activities Directorate.

Vladimir Bogatyrev told the guests about a wide range of the educational programs that students, including foreign ones, study at Samara University. These include engineering, humanities, and natural sciences. Davoud Mirzakhani was interested in the actual number of the foreign students studying at the university and its positions in educational rankings. The rector explained that currently about a thousand foreign students from 67 countries, including Iran, are getting higher education here. He also clarified that in various Russian rankings, the university consistently ranks in the top-10 best universities for engineering specialties in such areas as “invention” and “innovation”, and is in the top-20 in a number of subject rankings.

During the meeting, the Consul General expressed interest in expanding cooperation with Samara University and also invited the University Administration to participate in the international exhibition in Iran. The rector thanked the Consul General for his willingness to intensify cooperation and for the opportunity to visit the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Vladimir Bogatyrev also acquainted the delegation with the work of the Regional Centre for the Development of Public Diplomacy and International Relations named after Yevgeniy M. Primakov, operating on the basis of the university. Here, in the Centre, Davoud Mirzakhani gave a lecture for the students studying international relations. He talked about the modern relations between Iran and Russia and answered numerous questions of the students. The young people were interested in how to build a career in the diplomatic sphere, student educational exchange between Russia and Iran, and travelling to the Islamic Republic of Iran to get acquainted with its culture and art.

“Russia is a country with rich cultural traditions. Iran is interested in expanding cooperation with Russia in this area, as well as in various fields of the economy”, concluded Davoud Mirzakhani.
