The official opening of the United Nations Model began with a welcoming speech by Mikhail Mikhailovich Leonov, Vice-rector for Educational Work and Youth Policy at Samara University, who noted the importance of holding such events for the development of diplomatic skills of young people and their formation of an active civic position.

Vadim Evgenievich Sergeev, Deputy Director of the Department of International Organizations at the MFA of Russia, stressed that such platforms as the Samara Interregional Model of the United Nations are an excellent opportunity for young people not only to immerse themselves in the world of diplomacy and international relations, but also to develop the skills of critical thinking, argumentation and compromise necessary to solve complex global problems.

Alexey Nikolaevich Borisov, Secretary General of the Russian Association for the Promotion of the United Nations, emphasized the importance of the United Nations Model for the development of the youth diplomatic movement in Russia. He also noted that the topic of combating the glorification of Nazism, chosen for this year’s Model, is particularly relevant and important, as it requires young people to have a deep understanding of history and the ability to critically evaluate information.

Then Alexey Valeryevich Chupakhin, the official Representative of the MFA of Russia in Samara, addressed the students and schoolchildren with a welcoming speech, emphasizing the importance of multilateral diplomacy in the modern world and the need for future international specialists to develop negotiation skills, search for compromises and the ability to defend the interests of their country.
