Journey to the world of Africa and ASEAN: exciting regional studies lectures at the Primakov Centre!

Dear friends, we are sharing our impressions from our regional studies lectures, which have become a real discovery within the framework of the Samara Interregional Model of the United Nations!

Our experts and speakers immersed us in the fascinating world of Africa and the ASEAN countries, giving us unforgettable knowledge and inspiration!

Mary Avdalyan, a senior researcher at the IAAS Department of African Studies at Moscow State University, was the first to conquer us. She told us how to start studying Africa for an international student.

We learned about:

  • The diversity of the continent: Africa is not just one country, but a whole world consisting of 54 states, different cultures and languages!
  • The importance of historical context: Understanding the colonial past, the struggle for independence and modern challenges is the key to understanding Africa!
  • Topical issues of our time: Mary Rafaelevna highlighted the key problems of Africa: conflicts, economic development, environmental challenges and the role of international organizations.

We were amazed by the depth of her knowledge and inspired by her enthusiasm!

Then we were on a trip to Southeast Asia with undergraduates from the program “Politics and Economics of the Russia-ASEAN Strategic Partnership” at MGIMO University of the MFA of Russia, Preap Chantarit and Raisya Rakhmavati. They spoke fascinatingly about the culture and history of the ASEAN countries.:

  • An amazing variety of cultures: We immersed ourselves in the world of traditions, customs, music and dances from different countries of the region!
  • The history of the creation of ASEAN: We learned about the goals and objectives of the organization, its role in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
  • Economic prospects: Discussed the economic development of the ASEAN countries and their place in the modern world.

Thanks to our speakers, we have discovered new horizons in Africa and ASEAN!

These lectures have become a real decoration of the Samara interregional Model of the United Nations!

We gained invaluable knowledge, broadened our horizons and were inspired to new achievements!
