December 18, 2024, the Samara International Model of the UN Security Council was held at the Primakov Regional Center for the Development of Public Diplomacy and International Relations. The agenda of the meeting was devoted to the Suez crisis.
This year, the Samara Model of the United Nations became International and brought together participants from different countries.:
- Samara National Research University named after academician S.P. Korolev (Russia);
- Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University named after B.N. Yeltsin (Kyrgyzstan);
- Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Vietnam (Vietnam);
- Volgograd State University (Russia);
- Northwestern Polytechnic University (China);
- Belgorod State University (Russia);
- Recep Tayyip Erdogan University (Turkey);
- Pakistan Institute of Trade and Development (Pakistan);
- Bahauddin Zakariya University (Pakistan).
At the very beginning of the meeting, Alexey Chupakhin, Representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry in Samara, greeted everyone. He noted that despite the fact that the UN system is currently being heavily criticized, this does not allow it to be deprived of its status as the main international negotiating platform, where agreements with legal and political implementation can and should be reached. He stressed: “In July of this year, at the suggestion of Russia, an open debate of the Security Council was held on the issue of building a more just and sustainable world order. Of course, it is important to continue the discussion that has begun both at the UN and at other venues.”
Associate Professor of the Department of International Law at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, PhD. jurid. Elena Gulyaeva emphasized the need for further development of the model movement at the university in order to improve students’ competencies in the field of international relations and wished further success to all participants.
“I am sure that all participants in this International model of the UN Security Council will somehow have the opportunity in their lives to apply the knowledge, skills and abilities gained during the game in a real working environment, ensure the stability of relations between our countries, their prosperity and sustainable development,” said Yaroslav Golubinov, Dean of the Faculty of History.
Every year, students and schoolchildren from both Russia and other countries take part in the Models of International Organizations of the Primakov Center. This year, representatives of 9 universities from all over the world participated in the game. In the business game, the participants became delegates to the UN Security Council, represented the interests of the chosen country, and through discussions came to the adoption of a common resolution.
According to the results of the meeting, the “Best Delegate” was awarded The UN Security Council, according to the Presidium of the Model, is Muhammad Qasim Khan, Bahauddin Zakariya University (Pakistan).
As part of the general voting, the participants selected the “Best delegation” consisting of students from Samara National Research University named after academician S.P. Korolev: Alina Sadykova, Alina Bakhmetyeva.
