On June 21-22, graduates of the Department of Theory and History of Journalism in the field of Television at Samara University presented their final qualifying works.
The Chairman of the state examination Commission was Rifat Sabitov, Deputy Director General — Head of the regional Department of VGTRK, Chairman of the Commission of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation for the development of the information community, mass Media and mass communications. Elena Krylova, Director of GTRK Samara, joined the GEC.
The knowledge of future professionals was also evaluated:
- Natalia Zakharchenko — Head of the Department of Theory and History of Journalism;
- Elena Orlova — Editor-in-chief of Samara-GIS TV channel;
- Victoria Trifonova is an associate professor of the Department of Theory and History of Journalism.
Opening the diploma defense procedure, Chairman of the commission Rifat Sabitov addressed the graduates.
“I would like to note that the level of training of students at Samara University is very high. And the process is set very correctly: many years ago, a model of practical training was invented on the basis of GTRK Samara. I understand that you are already ready to enter professional life. The only formality left is to defend the diploma. I wish you all success!”
The graduates submitted their projects to the court of the commission. Part of the work is research “from the inside”, because students received an empirical base in practice at the main media company in the region — GTRK Samara. The topics are very different, but extremely relevant: future TV personalities are interested in music videos, travel essays, documentaries, and fresh approaches to news content.
The cooperation of GTRK Samara with Samara University has been going on for more than 10 years, and from the first days of study, young people immerse themselves in the profession immediately in practice — in studios, hardware and installation complexes, and their teachers become employees of the company.
Summing up the results of the defense of the theses of future journalists, graduates of Samara University, Chairman of the GEC Rifat Sabitov noted that the quality of work is growing from year to year.
“It is gratifying and very pleasant that this is the result of collective work — the very convergence that was invented here at the Department of Journalism of Samara University together with GTRK Samara: students come, and already, as they say, “from the wheels”, they learn the profession — to write texts, shoot stories, voice and give it all out on the air. And upon completion of the training, these are ready—made journalists. Then they choose their own path: someone goes to television, someone goes to the radio, someone goes to the newspaper, someone generally goes into another profession, but the result here really exceeded all expectations. The day before yesterday, the expert council at Moscow State University discussed today’s needs for journalism training: what, in fact, an employer wants from a student who comes to work after studying journalism, and I told there about the wonderful experience that has been realized here in Samara. And I believe that this experience should be disseminated, it should be replicated, which is what we are doing in our large holding company: today, in fifty regions of the Russian Federation, a similar story is already repeating itself. I would like to wish graduates to successfully defend themselves and further realize themselves in the profession – this is the most important thing.”
