“Mystery is always attractive”

On November 23, FranClub organized a real movie theater with watching the movie “Amelie”.

“Amelie” is a beautiful embodiment of the concept of the “French style” in the broadest sense. It seems like everything is easy and simple, but it captivates and does not let go. When you try to understand your impressions, it suddenly becomes apparent that ease is a result of immense skill, and simplicity is merely illusory.

 Have you known that:

🔹 the number of girls named Amelie sharply increased after the release of the movie;

🔹 guides take tourists to the places shown in the movie;

🔹 apartment prices in Montmartre skyrocketed.

 The plot of the film was created from a multitude of amusing stories and observations that Jean-Pierre Jeunet had been collecting for a long time. Since 1974 the director kept a diary, and the memories and events recorded in it formed the basis of the story of Amelie.

 The main character was initially named Garance, but the director renamed her for the British actress Emily Watson, to whom he offered the role. Watson auditioned but later declined.

In search of a new Amelie, the director came across a movie poster featuring an unknown actress, Audrey Tautou. He noted that the girl resembled an elf and realized that this is how the heroine “not from this world” should look. This role became iconic for 25-year-old Tautou – a few young French actresses could boast such recognition worldwide!

 The director was inspired by the characters of Dostoevsky. The image of the failed writer Hipolito was inspired by Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky’s character, Ippolit Terentyev, from the novel “The Idiot” (one of the director’s favorite novels).

If you didn`t join us, we suggest you watching “Amelie” during these cold evenings anyway.

We are waiting for you at the next meeting of FranClub!
