The official opening of the exhibition “Ornaments of BRICS” took place in the Primakov Centre. The exposition was based on the materials provided by the The Russia-BRICS Project Office | BRICS Youth of the Ulyanovsk Region Creative Industries Fund.

Kira Ivanova, the coordinator of the Russia-BRICS Project Office for International Youth Cooperation made a welcome speech.

“During the organization of the exhibition we encountered some unexpected moments for ourselves. Firstly, since the word “ornament” in English also means “decoration”, most teams initially did not fully understand the task, which then had to be explained for a very long time. It also turned out that there is no such a concept as “the name of a specific pattern” in Brazil, so the team had to ask permission from the representatives of indigenous Brazilian peoples to photograph their ritual objects, seeking clarifications with regard to their meaning, in order to create drawings for the exhibition based on them. In South Africa, ornaments are mainly depicted on fabrics of traditional costumes of various peoples, residing in the country, and carry a deep meaning of intergenerational connection, often representing entire phrases or social status”, shared Kira Ivanova.

The project has become a vivid embodiment of multicultural cooperation between young people from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
