The 21st of November 2024, the Samara National Research University named after Academician S.P. Korolev hosted the grand opening of the exhibition of unique archival documents, photographs and materials about the life and activities of S.P. Korolev. The exhibition was organised by the E.M. Primakov Centre (Samara University) together with the Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the leading enterprises of the region RSC Progress JSC and ODK-Kuznetsov PJSC.
The guests of the event were welcomed by Mikhail Leonov, Vice-Rector for Educational Work and Youth Policy of Samara University, Victoria Bolgova, Vice-Rector of Samara University, Marat Yuryev, Federal Inspector for Samara Region, Denis Gurkov, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Samara Region, Alexander Rabotkevich, Director of the Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Natalia Malkova, Director of the Central State Archive of Samara Region.
Students, teachers and staff of Samara University were able to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of space flights and learn a lot of new things about the formation of rocket science of the Fatherland. After all, the majestic mock-up of the “Soyuz-2” rocket, which became a symbol of the beginning of the space age of mankind, towered above the whole exhibition!
Samara is rightfully the space capital of Russia. It was here that the production of the first intercontinental ballistic missiles R-7 began, and then Vostok, Molniya, Voskhod and Soyuz were developed and built. Samara launch vehicles put into Earth orbit not only Yuri Gagarin’s Vostok, but also the spacecrafts of other Soviet and Russian cosmonauts.
The contribution of Samara residents to the development of cosmonautics cannot be overestimated. The life work of Sergey Pavlovich Korolev is continued today by Samara scientists, engineers, workers of the enterprises participating in the exhibition RSC Progress and ODK-Kuznetsov, as well as students, scientists and teachers of the Samara National Research University named after Academician S.P. Korolev, which has been training personnel for the space industry of our country since the first day of its foundation and up to the present time.
You can see the exhibition from 21 to 28 of November 2024 at the address – building No.1 of Samara University, 151 Molodogvardeyskaya Street. Prior agreement with the organisers is required: primakovctr.samara@bk.ru.
