Cooperation between Brazil, India, China, Russia and South Africa is the main topic of the IV Week of Russian Diplomacy “BRICS-2023: New Challenges and Development Prospects in the Context of International Instability”, which started at Samara University at the Regional Center for Development of Public Diplomacy and International Relations named after Evgeniy M.Primakov. The forum was attended by leading scholars, experts, foreign ministry officials and journalists. A columnist for the InoSMI portal, part of the “Russia Today” media group Dmitriy Babich told the forum about the hopes that the media in Brazil and Latin America have for the peacekeeping potential of the BRICS. According to him, the press in the United States, the EU and Canada sometimes deliberately silence BRICS initiatives in an attempt to maintain the appearance of the G7 dominating the world agenda, uniting only the countries of the “new” and “old” West. But in many Latin American countries (not only in Brazil itself), BRICS is perceived as a structure with strong economic and peacemaking potential. It is from the BRICS that the editions of Mexico, Venezuela, and Bolivia expect actions that will eliminate the threat of a global destructive conflict and help build a more equitable mechanism of global economic integration for the poor, Dmitriy Babich pointed out.
