The Primakov Centre hosted a meeting of IberAClub and the Center for Spanish Culture, dedicated to the celebration of Christmas in Spanish-speaking countries.

Our guests told us about the peculiarities of celebrating Christmas in their home countries:

Pedro de las Eras told us about how Christmas is celebrated in Spain and also shared touching family stories and memories from his own life, thanks to which we were able to get into the spirit of the holiday.

Jairo Verdugo and Otto Gutierrez from Colombia told us about the specific customs of celebrating Christmas in their homeland:

Did you know that who is walking around with a suitcase in their area on New Year’s Eve will attract a rich year for travel!

While light snowfall envelops Christmas trees on the European continent, in the New Years’ time Argentina basks in the bright sun, but this does not at all drive away the festive mood from the Argentines. Thanks to Alexei Kravtsev, we were lucky to see with our own eyes how Argentines are preparing for the New Year’s celebration.

As it turned out, the countries of the Iberoamerican region are connected not only by language, but also by many traditions, as well as recipes for the festive table, such as:

The Christmas sweetness of turrón is a delicious nougat, a dessert enjoyed by children and adults alike!

Twelve grapes for happiness, which are usually eaten under the chimes that mark the coming of midnight on December 31.

And, of course, not a single New Year’s table is complete without Olivier, even in the countries of Iberoamerica! Ensaladilla rusa – “Russian salad” with Spanish character!

At the IberAClub Christmas meeting, the participants enjoyed delicious cookies, warmed up with hot tea, sharing their impressions!
