On March 18, 2024, the SinoClub of the Primakov Centre took part in a teleconference of the round-table discussion  “Chinese Modernization at the Present Stage”, organized by the Institute of China and Modern Asia of the RAS and the Media Corporation of China.

The opening speech was delivered by Zhang Hanhui, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Russian Federation.

Two sessions of the Chinese parliament have recently been successfully completed in China — about 5,000 deputies of the Chinese People’s Congress, together with General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping, discussed the main tasks of promoting and developing the state.

“China is working hard and steadily fighting for the development of a broad perspective of modernization. In terms of growth rate, China occupies one of the leading places in the world. China is rightfully considered the largest driver of global economic growth,” the speaker stressed.

Zhang Hanhui drew attention to the fact that soon we will celebrate a significant date — 75 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia.

As the speaker noted, mutually beneficial cooperation between our countries has broad prospects. We plan to support each other and work closely together, to make joint efforts to develop Russian-Chinese relations, since cooperation is natural and unshakable.

“The future of China is destined to continue to pursue a policy of openness and to develop in accordance with established goals!” Zhang Hanhui concluded his speech.

Kirill Babaev, moderator of the meeting, Director of the ICMA of the RAS, was next to deliver his welcoming speech. He noted the special importance of this event, because modernization is now a global process, and China is one of the leading drivers:

“The model on which the whole of humanity will develop depends on how the People’s Republic of China’s modernization will develop.”

Andrey Denisov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the People’s Republic of China, shared his rich work experience and turned to the history of China’s modernization of the past years. Chinese modernization has never been impromptu, everything was prepared and divided into stages, and a significant material base was laid.

“Today, it can be stated that modernization in China originated as a large-scale experiment that has yielded great results, and this experiment has entered a new phase of challenge, both in foreign policy and domestic political aspects. Anyway, the modernization of China is a national idea,” concluded Andrey Denisov.

Wang Bin, Head of the Eurasian Bureau of the Chinese Media Corporation, identified the main goal of the Chinese Media Corporation as establishing contacts between residents of different countries and presenting China’s global modernization model objectively.

According to Wang Bin, Russia and China, under the leadership of two leaders, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, will strengthen and deepen their cooperation.

During the event, the ideological basis, political and legal aspects and the economic basis of modern Chinese modernization were also considered.
