In Moscow, at the Institute of Latin America Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, students of Samara University and activists of the Primakov Centre (Samara) Mironova Alina Pavlovna, Morozova Elizaveta Andreevna and Sivkov Ivan Andreevich presented reports at the Conference of Young Scientists “Young Researchers in Search of a New View on Regional Issues”.

This conference took place during the internship of Elizaveta Morozova and Alina Mironova at the Institute of Latin American Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, organized by the Primakov Centre (Samara).

The conference was devoted to the issues of economic, political and social development of Latin America. Among other things, the conference included master classes from leading specialists of the institute and a cultural program in the museum of the MFA Russia. Students presented on their topic, listened to reports of other participants, both students and postgraduates, took part in discussions on burning issues. The problem of illegal migration from the region to the USA and changes caused by the policy of Donald Trump played a special role at the Conference.

Ivan Sivkov spoke about his experience at the Conference:

“This was my first conference outside of Samara. It was very interesting to speak for myself and listen to other people’s speeches. Participants arrived from about a dozen institutes and universities from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod. The cultural program was top-notch. Overall, it was very nice to see that Latin America is interesting to so many people in Russia. I don’t regret for a second that I went, and I hope to take part in this event again next time.”

Elizaveta Morozova shared her opinion:

“Participation in the conference was a valuable experience for me. Not only did I expand my knowledge of the current problems of the Latin American region, but I also had a unique opportunity to meet and communicate with leading Latin American studies experts of Russia. As part of the master classes by renowned Russian scientists L.S. Okuneva and P.P. Yakovlev, I was able to expand my understanding of the economic, political and social processes taking place in the countries of South America, and also get answers to questions of interest within the framework of my research work. Participation in the conference became a powerful incentive for me to continue working on studying this incredibly interesting region”

Alina Mironova joined her colleagues and commented on her participation as follows:

“The conference was a unique opportunity to present the results of my scientific work. The topics of the presentations were extremely broad, which allowed me to learn new and interesting information about Latin America. Everything took place in a friendly atmosphere, and the questions from colleagues after the presentation helped me to take a broader look at the research topic and to discover its new facets.”

We express our deep gratitude to the Institute of Latin America Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences for such great opportunities for young specialists and wish them further success in their work!
