On 15 October 2024, the SinoClub meeting of the Regional Centre for the Development of Public Diplomacy and International Relations named after Yevgeniy M. Primakov was held on the theme ‘Shadow Theatre’.
The participants of the meeting managed to learn a lot of interesting things about Chinese Shadow Theatre thanks to the guest speaker Dong Xi (董曦), a second year postgraduate student at Tianjin University of Foreign Languages, who is studying Russian.
Chinese Shadow Theatre has a long history and is now widespread not only in China but also in other countries of the world. Those present were able to get to know the history of Chinese Shadow Theatre and its varieties. They also learnt a lot about famous characters, materials and methods of making puppets.
In addition, the club participants even had the opportunity to perform a theatrical performance. The participants made their own characters for the shadow play. Having acted out the story, everyone was able to enjoy pleasant conversations with delicious treats.
