On February 12, 2025, the Primakov Center’s SinoClub held a meeting dedicated to the Chinese New Year.

Participants learned about the unusual traditions of celebrating the Lunar New Year in China, discovered why the color red is symbolic for people, and found out how Chinese rituals differ from Russian ones. Instead of a Christmas tree, the Chinese buy potted flowers, which create a festive atmosphere.

Also, the Chinese people launch lanterns with riddles written on them. The children were given the opportunity to guess complex hieroglyphic riddles themselves. Such fortune-telling is an ancient tradition to test one’s luck for the coming year

The common symbol of the new year for Russia and China turned out to be a mandarin orange. For all participants of the meeting, a master class was held on making a keychain in the form of a bright citrus fruit. In this way, they were able to take a piece of our warmth with them.

Our Chinese friends congratulated the guests, as did the students of the Department of Foreign Languages and Professional Communication, supervised by M.I. Varakina. At the end of the meeting, everyone enjoyed berries, sweets, and delicious Chinese tea.

See you soon!
