On the 5th of April 2025, a joint meeting of Unitis and FranClub was held at the E.M. Primakov Centre. The meeting included an exciting local history seminar-telebridge dedicated to the history and culture of Samara in the context of its ties with France! The event was organised jointly with the Russian House in Paris, bringing together experts and history buffs from both countries.

We were delighted to see a full room of interested listeners ready to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of the past. The seminar turned out to be rich and informative thanks to the brilliant performances of our speakers:

  • ️️Elena Igorevna Shleenkova (Associate Professor of the Department of Russian History and Historiography of Samara University) presented a very interesting report on Kuibyshev as a reserve capital during the Great Patriotic War, revealing the important role of the city in the history of the country.
  • ️️Elena Nikolaevna Vyaltseva (Chief Specialist of the Special Projects Department of the State Tretyakov Gallery branch) fascinated the audience with a story about the development of constructivism in Samara, and also told about the creation of the Tretyakov Gallery branch in the building of the Kitchen Factory.

️The topics covered during the seminar-teleconference included:

  • Architectural pearls of Samara with French motifs: the participants learnt how the French influence was reflected in the city’s appearance.
  • Little-known pages of the history of Samara and France: the speakers shared unique facts and stories that opened new horizons of knowledge about the past.
  • We thank all the participants for their interest and active participation in the discussion! Special thanks to the Russian House in Paris for fruitful cooperation and the opportunity to organise such a wonderful event.

We believe that this seminar-telebridge became one more step to strengthen cultural ties between Russia and France, and also awakened interest in studying the history of our native land. Follow our announcements – interesting and informative events are always waiting for you at the Primakov Centre!
