On February 18, 2025, DerKlub hosted a meeting dedicated to the mythical figure of Lorelei — the enchanting Rhine nymph whose image continues to captivate imaginations not only in Germany but around the world.
Together with the participants, we…
- discussed various theories about the origin of the name “Lorelei” and came to a consensus on the most plausible one;
- explored different versions of the folk legend and reflected on the tragedy woven into its narrative;
- read and analyzed Heinrich Heine’s poem “Die Loreley”: we identified its literary movement, examined the characters and their relationships, and uncovered the symbolic meanings hidden in the poem’s imagery.
The meeting proved to be rich in content and deeply engaging. The discussion, both planned and spontaneous, left a lasting impression and inspired many thoughtful reflections.
Who knows — perhaps there’s still a place for ancient legends in our modern world… and maybe, even now, the mesmerizing song of Lorelei echoes across the Rhine in the golden light of sunset?
