A meeting of the Primakov Centre’s SinoClub dedicated to the art of bonsai took place.

On 12th of March, China held an official holiday – Tree Planting Day, which was established to encourage citizens to participate in the greening of the country and increase the area of forests.

Bonsai is the art of growing an exact copy of a real tree in miniature, which originated in China and was further developed in Japan.

At the meeting participants learnt about the history of the holiday, how the art of bonsai originated in China and then developed in Japan, as well as the influence of Buddhism and Taoism on the art.

Guests learnt the basic styles of bonsai and were able to practice the skills they learned during the session.

After the lecture, a quiz awaited the participants. The winner who answered the most questions received a bonsai growing kit!
