Samara University opened an exhibition ‘Development of Rocket Engineering in Russia’

An exhibition of archival documents titled “The Development of Rocket Engineering in Russia” has opened at the Samara National Research University named after Academician S.P. Korolev. The exhibition is dedicated to the life and achievements of the outstanding designer after whom the university is named.

Mikhail Leonov, Vice-Rector of the university, noted that the exhibition is of particular interest to students planning a career in the rocket and space industry. It will run until November 28, 2024, and is located at: Molodogvardeyskaya Street, Building 151, Block 1.

The exhibition was organized in collaboration with the Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) and leading regional enterprises—JSC “RCC Progress” and PJSC “ODK-Kuznetsov”—as part of initiatives by Russian President Vladimir Putin aimed at improving the training of engineering personnel.

At the opening, Denis Gurkov, Acting Minister of Industry and Trade of the Samara Region, delivered a welcoming speech, emphasizing the region’s contribution to the development of Russian cosmonautics:
“The Samara Region is rightly called the space capital of Russia. It was here that the first intercontinental ballistic missiles, the R-7, as well as the ‘Vostok’ and ‘Soyuz’ launch vehicles, were produced. This exhibition is important for promoting our country’s achievements in space and will inspire young people to new accomplishments.”
