Starting in 2024, December 1 has been declared the All-Russian Day of Mathematics. This date was established by order of the Russian Ministry of Education—on the birthday of the outstanding Russian scientist Nikolai Ivanovich Lobachevsky.
The faculty and students of the Mechanics and Mathematics Department proposed a new tradition for this day—a family mathematics olympiad. To this end, the department announced team competitions for school-aged children and their parents, grandparents, and other family members.
The Family Olympiad is an opportunity for adults to revisit their math lessons, for schoolchildren to showcase their knowledge, and for the whole family to spend time together in an engaging and educational way.
This past Sunday, a shared interest in mathematics brought together people of all ages at Samara University named after Korolev. The teams were divided into three groups based on the age of the child in the team: grades 1-4, grades 5-9, and grades 10-11.
More than 300 participants and over 100 teams took part in the olympiad. The majority of the teams were represented by elementary school students. More than a third of them solved all the problems correctly.
Winners were determined in each age group and awarded diplomas. The results of the olympiad can be found at the provided link.
