At the Primakov Centre, Vladimir Andreevich Golinei, Candidate of Political Sciences, Senior Researcher, and Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists at the Institute of Latin America of the Russian Academy of Sciences, spoke. Discussing the fate of Latin America, the expert noted that in recent decades the region has undergone profound economic and political transformations that have significantly changed the landscape of Latin American countries and their place in the world.

Latin America was one of the first regions in the world to attempt regional integration. After the majority of Latin American countries gained independence from colonial rule, their governments faced the task of coordinating actions to protect against external threats and integrate the region into the global trade system.

Currently, integration in Latin America is taking place on various levels: there are numerous bilateral, multilateral, and regional agreements aimed at strengthening economic cooperation within the region. However, in recent years, attempts to achieve economic integration have repeatedly failed, and all existing integration associations in Latin America find themselves between two initial levels of integration: a free trade area and a customs union.

Latin America is currently experiencing a favorable period. Despite a number of problems, especially with public safety, the expert believes that most Latin American countries are poised for successful development in the coming years.
