On 24th May Africa day, jointly organized by ISClub and conversational FranClub, was held at the Regional Centre for Development of Public Diplomacy and International Relations named after Yevgeniy M. Primakov. In the framework of the event we got acquainted with glorious culture of African countries and discussed similarities and differences in French, Russian and English.
At the beginning we listened to reports about Madagascar, the Republic of Guinea, the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe and did a quiz. We’d like to share interesting facts with you! Did you know that:
- The Republic of Guinea is famous for its diamond and gold reserves, and it has the alternative name Guinea-Conakry.
- Madagascar hosts the Great Whale Festival, which attracts many tourists to watch the humpback whales, which put on a show in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean but only return to Antarctica from the end of September.
- The traditional theatrical pantomimes of dansu Kongo, puita and sokope (all ages participate take part, some in ritual costumes), as well as the theatrical musical performances of stleva and tlundu, are an integral part of the festivals and celebrations in Santomé and Principe.
In the second half of our meeting we tried to imitate the speech of foreign languages from around the world using film extracts, and we also tried to guess words by reading lips.
A beautiful ending was a wonderful performance by Adolfo Luiz, who played the song «My fine and distant future» on the flute.
Thank you all for coming to the last meeting of our clubs this year! We hope to see you in the new one!
