A member of the E.M. Primakov Regional Centre for Public Diplomacy and International Relations Development Yana Vidyaskina participated in the prestigious SMOLNY International Model United Nations (SMOLNYIMUN) held at the St. Petersburg State University’s Faculty of International Relations from March 27 to 30, 2025.
SMOLNYIMUN provides a unique opportunity for students and young professionals from around the world to experience the role of diplomats through simulations of various UN committees and bodies. Participation in these events enhances one’s understanding of international cooperation principles and develops negotiation and decision-making abilities within the context of multilateral diplomacy.
Within the framework of the Model, Yana Vidyaskina actively participated in one of the committees and had the opportunity to attend a press conference with experienced diplomats, including S.B. Andreev, A.G. Anisimov, A.A. Malygina, and N.V. Shevchuk. This interaction with professionals in the field of international relations provided her with first-hand knowledge of the complexities and intricacies of diplomatic work and allowed her to receive valuable guidance and advice.
Furthermore, Yana had the chance to engage with organizers of SMOLNYIMUN, gaining insight into their experience in hosting such large-scale events. She also discussed prospects for future collaboration.
The Primakov Center believes that participation in such events is of great importance for both students and faculty. It provides a valuable opportunity to expand one’s horizons, acquire new knowledge and skills, and establish connections with colleagues from various regions and countries.
Participation in the UN Model promotes the development of critical thinking and the ability to present and defend one’s position in a reasonable manner. It also helps to foster the ability to find common ground in difficult situations.
We would like to express our gratitude to the organizers of SMOLNYIMUN for this opportunity and look forward to continued fruitful collaboration!
