In the “IberAClub” of the Regional Centre for the Development of Public Diplomacy and International Relations named after Yevgeniy M. Primakov within the framework of the Latin America Week there was a film screening of “Black Moon”, which was provided by the Embassy of Mexico in the Russian Federation.
The debut picture of director-musician Tonatiuh Garcia combines two strong things – interesting historical material, which formed the basis of the storyline, as well as a beautifully constructed, although fictionalized, story of relationships between people in a small village.
Eastern Mexico, Veracruz Province, the quiet town of Jalcomulco, whose life flows with the waters of the Los Pescados River. The plot centers on the life of a large family: an older sister with a young son, an alcoholic middle brother whose wife has left him for another, a younger sister, a college student who dreams of escaping to the capital, and a grandfather with dementia who used to drive trains until the government sold them to America along with the rails. The unexpected news will raise the entire town in protest and force each of the characters to make decisions that will change their fates forever.
The film won several awards at the 45th Moscow International Film Festival, including the Silver St. George for Best Director and the Audience Choice Award.
