Italian Ambassador to Russia Giorgio Starace visited Samara University

On Friday, February 4, Samara University (Korolev University) was visited by Giorgio Starace, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Russia. He met with Rector Vladimir Bogatyrev, and then took part in a discussion with students and faculty at the Primakov Centre. The main topics of discussion were the development of modern international relations.

Appointed on October 1, 2021, Mr. Giorgio Starace continues his acquaintance with the Russian regions, paying special attention to the country’s higher education sector.

“Samara University is very prestigious, large, there are many faculties here,– said Giorgio Starace, answering questions from journalists. – Students are the future management class for each country, and their teachers are the ones who form these management classes. Therefore, during my visits to the regions, I try to meet with university students and teachers. During such meetings, contacts are established that need to be developed in the future. During this meeting, we hope to give additional momentum to the development of student and faculty exchange programs between Samara University and Italian universities”.

Samara University currently has several cooperation agreements with Italian universities in the fields of education and science. These include partnerships with the University of Naples Federico II, Tor Vergata University of Rome, and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. Italians participate in summer schools, scientific conferences, and forums held at Samara University.

Under the Erasmus+ program grant, Samara University collaborates with the Polytechnic University of Turin, Sapienza University of Rome, and Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa.

“During the meeting with Giorgio Starace, we discussed future cooperation and agreed to collaborate with the Italian Cultural Institute in Moscow. This cooperation involves faculty and student exchanges, as well as the study of the Italian language,” Vladimir Bogatyrev told the media, commenting on the outcomes of the negotiations. “Currently, one of our English-language online educational programs, ‘Aircraft Engines,’ is being implemented jointly with the Polytechnic University of Turin. Under this program, Italian students come to Samara every year to study for one or two semesters, and students from Samara University also go to Italy for one or two semesters. We discussed with the Ambassador the possibility of expanding the number of such programs. The Italian side is primarily interested in cultural exchange and collaboration with the Socio-Humanitarian Institute of Samara University,” the university’s press service reported.
