Students of the International Relations program at Samara University participated in one of the largest international youth diplomacy conferences – the Moscow International Model United Nations, which took place from April 18 to 23, 2021. The event was organized by the United Nations Association of Russia in cooperation with the MGIMO University of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The Model UN is a role-playing simulation where, over the course of a week, delegates fully replicate the work of the United Nations bodies.

Participants of the Model UN – delegates, observers, chairs, and experts – act as official representatives of UN member states and international organizations.

Beyond that, the Model UN is also an international educational program, since one of its key principles is the strict observance of UN procedural rules, which allows participants to better understand the work of the world’s largest international organization.

Following the event, student delegates Nikolai Tatarovsky 5201-410305D, Sergey Klyushin 5203-410305D, Olesya Balyok 5302-410305D, and Elizaveta Mishushina 5401-410305D received certificates from MGIMO University of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation for successfully representing their country in the Model UN.

According to the students, participation in the Model UN is an excellent school of diplomacy that provides unique opportunities for self-development, enhancing intellectual and creative abilities, erudition, and critical thinking.

The experience and knowledge gained are ready to be applied within their alma mater during the organization of the Samara Interuniversity Model UN, which will be held at Samara University on May 12, 2021.
