The interuniversity Model of the UN was held at Samara University

On May 12, 2021, the Regional Centre for the Development of Public Diplomacy and International Relations named after Yevgeniy M. Primakov hosted the interuniversity business game “Model UN”, held to celebrate Victory Day.  During the event, students reproduced the work of the United Nations, which has become a symbol of the desire of the victorious countries to prevent a repeat of the world war.

Both Russian and foreign students studying at universities of the Samara region (Samara University, Technical University, Medical University, University of Economics, Socio-Pedagogical University, Agrarian University) took part in the “Model UN”.

48 young people, communicating in two working languages of the UN – Russian and English – simulated the work of the UN Environmental and Social Council to formulate a resolution to address the impact of COVID-19 on the world economy.

The delegates were welcomed by Mikhail A. Feoktistov, Federal Inspector for the Samara Region, and Vera M. Shcherbacheva, Head of the Department of External Relations of the Administration of the Governor of the Samara Region. The prorector for Educational Work of Samara University M.M. Leonov made a welcoming speech, who reiterated: “the reproduction of the mechanism of the United Nations within the UN Model gives importance to its activities and opens up huge opportunities for the participants of the event.”

After the opening, the delegates of the Model began to present the positions of the countries, debates and the creation of coalitions in order to present a resolution as a result of the work. During the event, students received important skills in presenting the position of countries, knowledge about finding compromise solutions at the UN site and at the level of interstate relations.
